12-day Banana Detox Diet.

Could you imagine why someone would want to go on a banana-only diet for a whole 12 days? Well, that’s what Yulia Tarbath decided to do as part of her detox plan. Already a committed vegetarian and a raw food fan, Yulia knew the benefits of eating a wide range of fruit and vegetables and all about the special qualities of the banana. Some vegetarians can become even stricter with their diet and transfer to being fruitarians (people who only eat fruit). There are benefits to being a fruitarian, particularly when eating bananas, as the whole body’s cleansed and well hydrated from the natural water content in the fruit. Every 100g of banana contains 89 calories and 75% water content, with 23% carbohydrate and less than 1% fat.

Healthy properties

The properties in bananas help remove toxins from the body and they’re packed with essential nutrients to maintain health. Bananas contain B vitamins, including vitamin B1 and B2. The latter’s an important vitamin to help the body cleanse itself. B2 also plays an important role in maintaining healthy skin, nails and hair. Vitamin B6 in bananas helps to regulate hormones including the male and female sex hormones, impacting on general good health. Bananas are an excellent source of starch and minerals such as phosphorus, zinc, iron, potassium and sodium. As if that wasn’t enough, bananas have a high vitamin C content. The combination of B vitamins and minerals, as well as magnesium and tryptophan found in bananas stimulate the brain to produce the important chemical serotonin. Serotonin regulates mental functions including sleep, general mood and cognitive balance. Bananas are recommended for those suffering from depression. They’re a natural remedy for cramp too!
