Underarm sweat stains can be so embarrassing, especially when other people around you notice them. No matter how much you try to keep cool in the summer, odour and perspiration stains can still remain in your clothes. To remove yellow stains or sweat rings from shirts, try the following 5 solutions to help keep your clothes smelling and looking fresh.

Baking soda

Baking soda is a simple remedy for removing sweat rings from shirts and t-shirts. Use it to pre-treat the stain marks before washing the fabric. To do this, fill up the sink with cold water and pour 2 tablespoons of baking soda in the water.

Leave the garment in this solution for half an hour before rinsing, preferably by hand. If you wish to use the washing machine, it’s better to set it on delicate fabric wash. Another method that you can try with baking soda is to make a paste with a little water and rub on the stain. Do this for 10 minutes or so until all traces of sweat have completely disappeared. Keep in mind that this method should only be tried on stronger fabrics.

Vinegar

Vinegar has disinfectant properties that are useful for cleaning the house as well as clothes. To use it on sweat stains, mix a glass of cold water with one cup of vinegar. The garment should be immersed in this compound for an hour.

After an hour has passed, you can wash the shirt by hand or in the washing machine using the usual detergent. Once the shirt has fully dried, there will be no traces of any unpleasant sweat stains.

Lemon juice

Lemon juice is known for its bleaching and cleansing properties. If you need to remove yellow sweat stains from a garment, use pure lemon juice. To do this, you can either dilute the juice with some lukewarm water in a spray can, or rub the juice directly on the fabric stain. Let the juice absorb into the stain for thirty minutes before washing the garment. Make sure you don’t leave the lemon juice on the fabric for longer than half an hour, otherwise it can cause discolouring. This practical and easy remedy makes economic and ecological sense as no harsh chemicals are used to remove sweat rings.
