How To Make A Stylish Mobile Phone Stand From A Toilet Roll In 10 Steps.

Most of us send our used toilet roll cardboard cores straight to recycling, but there's a very nifty and quick trick that will turn it into a stunning, decorative stand for your mobile phone. The job only takes about 10-15 minutes to make and, if you've children to help, they'll find it fascinating too. You'll need:
  • 2 toilet roll cores
  • Scissors
  • PVA glue in a glue gun
  • 2 squares of your favourite colour of cardboard
  • A similar colour decorative covering, such as fabric, tissue or gift wrap.

Here's what to do:

1. Cut one toilet roll core in a straight line down one side from end to end to effectively open it up.

2. Cut the second core into 2 completely separate halves, always cutting vertically in a straight line, keeping one half for the next stage and discarding the other.

3. Taking the first core you opened up with a single cut, touch together the 2 open ends again to make a slit and insert the second piece by slotting it lengthways into it.

4. Holding in place the 2 separate pieces that are now joined together, streak the length of the 'join' with the glue gun on the outside both on the top and also on the underside. You'll now have a core that's been glued back together with a curved cardboard lip sticking out that'll cradle your phone to form the basic structure of your stand.

5. Taking the coloured cardboard, cut 2 squares to a size just slightly bigger than the 2 circular ends of the your freshly made cardboard structure.

6. Run the glue gun around the rim of the 2 circular ends of the structure then glue the cardboard squares over the ends to completely close them off, slightly overlapping the rim circumferences.
