The picture of Rachel Hollis in her bikini, together with the accompanying text, which was very sincere, instantly went viral. The photo was shared by over 1000 Facebook and Instagram users in a few minutes. After just four days, the number had grown to 350,000. Rachel certainly did not expect such a display of sympathy, but the meaning of the photo struck a chord that resonated over the world.

Stretch marks shouldn't be hidden any longer

This is Rachel Hollis with the youngest of her three children. In addition to being a mom - which, as she admits, makes her extremely proud - Rachel also runs a lifestyle blog, called 'The Chic Site' where she provides advice to help people to make the most of their lives. At one point, as I said, one of the published photos of her caused a reaction that Rachel would never have predicted...

The picture was taken during the family's summer holidays in Cancun, Mexico. The photo show Rachel looking slim, tanned and wearing a sporty orange and purple bikini. Rachel's stretch marks on her stomach are clearly visible. A typical picture of a young mother on a beach holiday, you might think, but it was not so much the actual image, immediately posted on Facebook, that created such a stir of social support, but rather the accompanying words: msrachelhollis "I have stretch marks and I wear a bikini. I have a belly that's permanently flabby from carrying three giant babies and I wear a bikini. My belly button is saggy... (which is something I didn't even know was possible before!!) and I wear a bikini. I wear a bikini because I'm proud of this body and every mark on it. Those marks prove that I was blessed enough to carry my babies and that flabby tummy means I worked hard to lose what weight I could. I wear a bikini because the only man who's opinion matters knows what I went through to look this way. That same man says he's never seen anything sexier than my body, marks and all. They aren't scars ladies, they're stripes and you've earned them. Flaunt that body with pride! #RealAndChic #HollisHoliday."
